PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED

A very informative petition ... tells a lot about what's happening in China. Please sign it if you are a Canadian: http://falundafa.ca/petition/index.htm

A similar petition for people all over the world: http://petition.fofg.org.uk/organharvesting/

PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS IN PARLIAMENT ASSEMBLED

Condemn Chinese communist regime’s organ harvesting of living Falun Gong practitioners

I, the undersigned resident of Canada, draw the attention of the House of Commons to the following:
    Whereas, the Chinese Communist regime's continued persecution of Falun Gong indeed necessitates Canadian government's urgent attention;

    Whereas, Falun Gong is a meditative practice according to the principle of Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance;

    Whereas, Falun Gong is the No. 1 persecuted group in China today where in March 2006 the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Torture Mr. Manfred Nowak reported that 66% of the victims of alleged torture and ill treatment in China were Falun Gong practitioners. "The cruelty and brutality of these alleged acts of torture defy description," commented Ms. Asma Jahangir, the UN Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions;

    Whereas, since the Chinese Communist regime started the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, more than 3,000 practitioners have been verified as having been tortured to death to date (excluding the deaths caused by organ harvesting).  The U.S. State Department’s 2006 Country Report on Human Rights Practices in China stated that Falun Gong practitioners may constitute "at least half of the 250,000 officially recorded inmates in reeducation-through-labor camps." Many cases of torture victims remain unreported, as the Chinese Communist regime imposes an information blockade, and reporting these cases to outside world constitutes a severe crime of leaking state secrets;

Whereas, Amnesty International report states in 2007 that "the official campaign of public vilification of Falun Gong in the official Chinese press has created a climate of hatred against Falun Gong practitioners, which may be encouraging acts of violence against them;"

    Whereas, an independent investigation conducted by former MP David Kilgour and human rights lawyer David Matas [http://organharvestinvestigation.net] concluded that "there has been and continues today to be large scale organ seizures from unwilling Falun Gong practitioners." The widespread killing of Falun Gong practitioners for profit to provide organs for transplants is "so shocking that it represents a new form of evil in the world," said Mr. Matas;

Whereas,  the Kilgour-Matas report states, “the government of China and its agencies in numerous parts of the country …since 1999 have put to death a large but unknown number of Falun Gong prisoners of conscience. Their vital organs, including hearts, kidneys, livers and corneas, were virtually simultaneously seized involuntarily for sale at high prices, sometimes to foreigners, who normally face long waits for voluntary donations of such organs in their home countries.”

Whereas,  the report states that “The policy of repression of the Falun Gong means that they are in prison without rights, at the disposition of corrupt authorities. The incitement to hatred against the Falun Gong and their dehumanization means that they can be butchered and killed without qualms by those who buy into this official hate propaganda.”

    Whereas,  the number of organ transplants performed in China has increased exponentially following the official crackdown on Falun Gong in 1999. The report indicates that about 41,500 organs transplanted in China in the last six years might have come from Falun Gong practitioners;

Whereas,  it is the responsibility of free and democratic nations to condemn the act of crimes against humanity and shameless disregard for human life wherever they occur; it is also our responsibility as human beings to raise awareness necessary to stop horrific crimes against our fellow human beings.

Therefore, I urgently call on our Canadian government to help stop these atrocities. Please:

    • Make a public statement and pass a motion in the House to condemn the Communist regime for committing these crimes against humanity;

    • Urge the Chinese regime to end the persecution of Falun Gong and release all Falun Gong practitioners immediately, including the 16 with family members in Canada

    • Take active measures to help stop the mass killing and organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners;

    • Discourage Canadians from traveling to China for organ transplants;

    • Disallow entry to Canada any Chinese doctor known to be involved in organ harvesting.

     ——唐柏桥:男儿有泪不轻弹 我流泪了

    中国农历新年期间,8964学生领袖、中国和平民主联盟主席、中国过渡政府发言人唐柏桥在纽约无线电音乐厅观赏了神韵晚会后说:"男儿有泪不轻弹,看演出时,因为感动,我流泪了。"

    唐柏桥认为神韵晚会是一台艺术飨宴,独一无二,可以给人很多启发。"这是国内外任何一台晚会都做不到的。看完后会思考,会思考人的本性,人的价值观。"

    唐柏桥透露,中国大陆的很多民众也知道神韵演出很受欢迎。录音
    "神韵的声誉将传的越来越广,消息挡不住了。"

    他说:"告诉大家一个好消息,今天来看晚会的我的一个朋友,本人还不知道神韵,是她在中国的妈妈告诉她要来看。她妈妈在中国做生意,也不是法轮功学员,对神韵演出很了解,知道非常好,已经在世界各地转播,她妈妈非常想看,就让她女儿一定要去看。所以她女儿今天就来了。"

    唐柏桥称赞神韵是一台艺术飨宴给人很多启发。录音:"为什么所有参加演出的演员这么纯真、不骄不躁,即使是反映法轮功学员受迫害的时候,都没有仇恨的眼神和表情,回想中国这几十年出现的样板戏,《白毛女》、《东方红》等,表演的内容都是表现仇恨,现在想来就是文化演出中在煽动仇恨。而这台戏宣扬的是真善忍"。

    唐柏桥说他看完这个秀,明白了应该如何做人。录音:"如果以一个高尚道德为标准的规范要求自己,将来到哪里都会畅通无阻,拥有朋友。相反如果无形中跟着共产党那一套,今天跟这个嚣张,明天跟那个比,争啊斗啊,必将四面楚歌,刚来美国时处处不受欢迎,那是因为逆着人性在走如果看了这个晚会,如果人人都尊重人性,而不是党性,中共指挥谁也指挥不动。遗憾的是共产党给中国人洗脑,所以,我们现在要把人们拉回来。"

    唐柏桥认为,现在的世界很需要神韵这样的艺术去洗涤人心。录音:"如果大家多去追求这些美好事物,今天的经济危机也就不会那么的严重。为什么当今世界发生经济危机?世界生产力发展很快,全世界没有发生天灾人祸和战争,为什么却发生了这么大的经济危机?我认为,是因为人的贪欲,人的道德的滑落,造成了人类更大的经济灾难,而许多人今天还没有清醒过来。"

    China's New Propaganda Machine

    Going global.

By NICHOLAS BEQUELIN | From today's Wall Street Journal Asia

China is about to embark on a multibillion dollar media expansion overseas, including the establishment of a 24-hour English language all-news channel modeled after CNN. These are only the most recent steps in a methodical strategy for Chinese state media to "go global" and make "the voice of China better heard in international affairs" -- a plan set in motion by President Hu Jintao immediately after his accession to power in 2002. Since then, Chinese state broadcasters have considerably strengthened their foreign news operations, enhanced foreign language services and established the supporting bureaucracy to get the government's message out swiftly when news breaks.

The sheer scale of these plans raises many questions about China's long-term objectives. Can state-run broadcasters, whose traditional role is to be the "throat and tongue" of the Communist Party, really turn into competitors for the likes of CNN and the BBC? Or could China's quest for international audiences lead to a loosening of the tight censorship rules that continue to straightjacket its reporting? There is, after all, something natural in the aspiration of a rising global power to match its newly acquired economic might with a corresponding increase in its "soft" power, and its growing involvement in world affairs with a bigger voice in the international arena. Many governments do just that with state-sponsored broadcasting, like Voice of America or Germany's Deutsche Welle. So what's different with China?

The difference lies in the strong control the Chinese government and Chinese Communist Party exert over news and information. Sure, in recent years China Central Television (CCTV) and even the People's Daily look slicker, more contemporary and less political than in the past. But this has not changed the fundamental premise that all information on state-run channels must reflect the government's views.

This is no surprise. The state itself refers to all media work abroad as wai xuan, or "external propaganda." On its official Web site -- but only in Chinese -- CCTV describes itself as "the mouthpiece of the Party and the government," lists its main operations under the heading "propaganda situation," and refers to its new foreign language channels as "reaching a new stage in external propaganda." Xinhua -- a self-depicted "news agency with Chinese characteristics" -- describes its activities as "conducted from start to finish under the direct leadership of the central party authorities." Its current director is the vice-chair of the Central Committee's propaganda department. For the Party, propaganda is not a degraded form of information -- it is information. None of this context appears in the English language versions of these Web sites.

This is not to say that there is no quality journalism in China. Over the past 20 years the marketization of the Chinese media industry has led to an explosion in the number of "commercial" newspapers, magazines, Internet information portals and radio and television stations. Although they remain controlled by the government through a combination of ownership, licensing and administrative shackles, many companies have discovered that hard news is the best way to attract an audience. Faced with fierce competition, the Party has responded by giving more leeway to the most prominent state-run organs and encouraging the adoption of Western-style media marketing techniques. Even CCTV now has an excellent Chinese-language investigative program called "News Probe," which has broadcast stories on subjects such as AIDS orphans, pollution, land grabs and corruption.

However, these programs have not made their way to the wai xuan media. English-language news from China is not about informing the foreign public; it is about channeling a specific view of China to the rest of the world. The Party's information management is based on the principle of neiwai butong, or "domestic and overseas differ." Beijing's 45 billion yuan investment will be geared mainly to sprucing up these outlets for foreign viewers, but the fundamental mission won't change.

It's not just English-language viewers who will receive this polished view of China. In addition to the forthcoming "Chinese CNN," CCTV recently added French- and Spanish-language broadcasts and has plans to launch Arabic and Russian channels this year. While American networks are slashing their overseas operations, state-owned Xinhua news agency is considering expanding its overseas bureaus to 186 from 100.

Beijing might be right in thinking that improved "external propaganda" will provide an additional weapon to fight back against its critics, but ultimately it will come at the expense of something far more important: the soft and persuasive power that can only come with a free, unbiased media that informs rather than misleads.

B.C. Court Orders Removal of Protest Structures From Chinese Consulate

A court ruling Thursday ordered the long-standing Falun Gong appeal site structures outside the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver to be dismantled within seven days.

Justice Sunni Stromberg-Stein issued a 37-page ruling upholding the City of Vancouver’s application seeking the removal of a hut and signs that have been part of the Falun Gong 24/7 protest since 2001.

As news of the ruling filtered through the Vancouver Falun Gong community, more than 40 practitioners gathered outside the consulate on Thursday night, marking day 2717 of the protest.

Joe Arvay, the lawyer representing the Falun Gong practitioners who have maintained the vigil in protest of the Chinese regime's ongoing persecution of their counterparts in China, has urged the group to appeal.

“We are very disappointed with this court ruling and we are seriously considering an appeal,” says Falun Dafa Association of Canada (FDAC) spokesperson Sue Zhang.

“Our fellow practitioners in China don’t have any voice, and we are here trying to be their voice, trying to stop the persecution, nothing else. We are here not for ourselves, not for any other gain or whatever, just to stop the brutal persecution.”

To tell the world about what they say is a genocide in China, practitioners erected a wall of posters and photographs of persecuted members along the consulate fence, as well as a small hut by the sidewalk for shelter.

“We have been here now over seven years, we are not interfering with anyone and we have cooperated with the city all along,” Zhang says.

Stromberg-Stein stated in the judgment that she accepted that former Mayor Sam Sullivan wanted the structures removed in 2006 “as part of his public order agenda.”

“The evidence of the now former Mayor, which I accept, is that his wish to do so had nothing to do with the fact that the structures were in front of the Chinese Consulate or because of the sensitivities of the Chinese government,” the judgment stated.

Arvay had argued that Sullivan wanted the structures removed at the behest of the Chinese regime. He said Chinese consulate officials had pressured Sullivan to get rid of the protest.

“Unfortunately former mayor Sam Sullivan initiated this case and we feel he was under pressure from the Chinese Communist Party,” says Zhang. “The two mayors before him were fine with this. We feel the Chinese government has pressured very hard to remove us.”

A report written by a Chinese spy operating in Canada suggested that due to successful lobbying by Beijing, the Canadian government had pressed the City of Vancouver to remove the protest, according to a June 2005 statement by defecting Chinese agent Hao Fengjun.

FDAC has stated that many cities in Canada and around the world with similar displays outside consulates and embassies have faced pressure from Chinese authorities. The cities of both Toronto and Ottawa have been asked to remove their sites, but city officials there have stood their ground.

The Falun Gong group maintains the City of Vancouver initially gave verbal approval for the protest which they say has had the effect of embarrassing the Chinese regime and is invaluable in raising awareness of the persecution. The regime outlawed the practice in 1999.

“We feel we have a constitutional right to be here,” says Zhang. “Canadian laws protect freedom of expression. When people are being killed for their organs to make a profit, and so many people are tortured to death just for their belief of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance … We are proud being here as Canadians, so we are very disappointed over the court ruling today.”

European Parliament Members Send Strongly Worded Invitation to Eutelsat

European Parliament Members Send Strongly Worded Invitation to Eutelsat

    Eutelsat Blocks NTDTV in China

After turning down one invitation, European satellite company Eutelsat has been sent a second, more strongly worded invitation from three Members of European Parliament (MEPs) over concerns that Eutelsat caved to pressure from the Chinese communist regime.

The France-based private company terminated broadcast of the network, New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV), into China in June, 2008, citing technical reasons. A July 10 investigative report by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) revealed, however, that the broadcast cut was a premeditated act, owing to influence from the Chinese regime ahead of the Beijing Olympics.

On Jan. 15, the European Parliament, one of the most powerful legislative bodies in the world, passed a resolution calling on Eutelsat to resume NTDTV’s broadcast and clarify its reasons for suspending the broadcast.

“Given the seriousness of this matter and recent resolution of the European Parliament, we invite you again to visit us in Strasbourg during the next plenary session between 2nd and 5th of February,” reads the letter, dated Jan. 22.

“Should you not be interested in this exchange of view we would consider that as a precise political signal,” continues the letter, signed by MEPs Marco Cappato, Anna Foltyn-Kubicka, and Thomas Mann on behalf of the more than 400 MEPs who signed the resolution.

The incriminating evidence against Eutelsat includes a recorded phone conversation released by RSF in which a Eutelsat representative in Beijing admitted to the caller—who the representative thought was a Chinese Propaganda Department official—that the company’s move to cut NTDTV was politically motivated.

The Department for Foreign Affairs of Berlin has classified the recording as credible. The Department said that when they contacted Eutelsat's German representative, the representative admitted that it was a politically motivated decision and asked for anonymity.

In response to the first invitation to Eutelsat, the company president said he could not attend and invited the MEPs to Eutelsat’s headquarters in Paris, France instead.

MEPs have questioned the integrity of Eutelsat’s first response.

“It’s obvious that he’s afraid to come. He’s afraid to come and face the Members of Parliament because there is no explanation for closing the signal [into China] and that is obvious,” said Foltyn-Kubicka, through a translator.

MEPs have pointed out three areas of pressing concern for human rights in China, including the persecution of the Falun Gong spiritual group and the suppression of rights in Tibet. The third area is the Chinese regime’s “organ harvesting,” the name for the fatal removal and sale of organs from death row prisoners and from Falun Gong practitioners held for their beliefs.

The EP is one of two legislative bodies that make up the legislative branch of the European Union, a governing body including 27 European nations.

“The EU is based upon and defined by its adherence to principles of freedom, democracy, and respect for human rights, fundamental freedoms and the rule of law,” reads the resolution.

Divine Performing Arts Choreographer on Chinese Classical Dance

Divine Performing Arts Choreographer on Chinese Classical Dance

By Jia Li and Helena Zhu Jan 23, 2009

    Divine Performing Arts

TORONTO—From the Mid-Autumn Spectacular to the New Year Spectacular, Michelle Ren, choreographer and principal dancer of Divine Performing Arts, has never failed to bring joy to Toronto audiences.

After a six-day run of the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) 2009 World Tour in Toronto just between the Western and Chinese New Year's, the Canadian audiences’ enthusiasm and sincerity left a deep impression on Ms. Ren.

“Audiences in Canada tend to be silent during the programs, yet at the end of each program, they would surprise us with their warmest applause. This always leaves us a very lovely memory.”

Ms. Ren said she feels very honored to perform with DPA in numerous prestigious theatres around the world. In total, the dance company staged more than 90 shows for the 2006-2007 tour, more than 130 shows for the 2007-2008 tour, and has scheduled more than 300 shows for the 2008-2009 tour.

“For ordinary dancers, they usually cannot perform this many shows in their lifetime. Through performing with Divine Performing Arts, I’ve had a chance to learn about traditional culture, morals and I have benefited artistically."

Ms. Ren began training in artistic gymnastics at the age of six before going into dance. She has won several national awards in China, and was the recipient of the first prize in the Adult Female Division of New Tang Dynasty Television’s International Chinese Classical Dance Competition in 2007.

    Audiences Rediscover Their Nicest Memories

Ms. Ren said that through watching Divine Performing Arts, audience members “seem to rediscover their nicest memories; feelings from childhood of a tranquil, compassionate, and upright nature. After watching DPA, they appear to reconnect with these long-lost feelings that resonate deep in their hearts. That’s probably why audience members are often moved to tears.”

In today’s society, most people have forgotten traditional culture, she said. “I feel incredibly fortunate to bring back the lost traditional values for audiences at such a time in history."

“We all have the same anticipation to promote the authentic, pure, and beautiful Chinese culture. We want to always bring the most sincere wish to audiences. So while we perform, we don’t usually have bad thoughts. When our hearts are pure, the audience will then feel comfortable and nice.”

She said that the performers’ thoughts, morality, and consideration for others in everyday life will all reflect on stage.

“Performers all have belief in the divine. When you produce something with a sincere and pure heart, you are bound to be enlightened. And of course, the product will turn out to be unique and distinctive.”

Ms. Ren hopes that more people can see this performance.

“I think that whoever can watch the performance has a deep predestined relationship with us. When mankind truly opens up their hearts, the divines will then endow all the best for them.”

Satellite company cuts China T.V. station

Satellite company cuts China T.V. station

    By Rebecca Croft - 26 Jan 2009
    E-mail or Print this story

Concern arose from The European Parliament as independent satellite company Eutelsat canceled China's only independent television station.

In a June 2008 press release, Eutelsat terminated New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV), claiming the program was pulled because of technical reasons and limited space on the satellite. The statement was later found inaccurate as investigations were conducted by the Reporters Without Borders organization and The European Parliament.

"There is plenty of space capacity on Eutelsat's Satellite W5, particularly since the US Broadcast Board of Governors has withdrawn from it," said European Parliament Member Bart States, in a press release. "The fact is, they're giving into pressure from the Chinese communist regime."

According to The European Parliament, NTDTV was the only uncensored, independent television station in China and distinguished itself by reporting hard-hitting news such as the Falun Gong organ harvesting, school buildings that were not up to earthquake code, and the 2003 SARS pandemic. The Chinese government openly expressed it was not in favor of the station and frequently displayed concern about its production in China, by implementing regulations against it.

Reporters Without Borders reported in their investigations that the Chinese government would not negotiate or work with NTDTV until they agreed to shut down their existing media operations.

According to the Epoch Times, the Chinese regime is known for altering news in foreign books, magazines, Internet articles, and printed articles entering China. They have also been known to rewrite history books to glorify the communist party and prevent negative historical events from being taught in the schools.

According to Reporters Without Borders, many Chinese citizens now believe the Tiananmen Square Massacre is a Western myth because of the rewriting of history books by the Communist Regime.

Carrie Hung, a spokesperson for NTDTV, said in the press release, "We're doing it for the people of China, for the future of China, especially during this crucial period of time." Although NTDTV is currently off the air in China, the station and European Parliament are hopeful it will return.

"We've all been granted with free access to information. But many of those people in China don't have such an opportunity, so I think it is important for all of us to work together. Every voice counts, ever since one of us can step and speak up and fight for the people in China," Hung said.

The European Parliament and Reporters Without Borders released a press release presenting a resolution for the NTDTV cancelation.

"Eutelsat's credibility is at stake and we urge its shareholders to intervene as quickly as possible so that NTDTV can resume broadcasting on this satellite," the Reporter Without Borders press release said.

Appellant Exposes Forced Labor Camp Secrets

By Liang Xin and Yuan Li
    Sound of Hope
    Jan 24, 2009

Recently Sound of Hope (SOH) interviewed Wang Ling, an appellant in Beijing. She disclosed the many inhumane tortures the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) uses to coerce Falun Gong practitioners into giving up their belief. Wang also talked about her stay in a forced labor camp. She said that Falun Gong practitioners came and went frequently. Often in the middle of the night, men in white hats and clothes would come into the cells and take the practitioners away while they were still asleep.

Wang was sentenced to a year and three months in forced labor in October 2007 because she went to Beijing to appeal a grievance during the 17th National Congress. When she was in the forced labor camp, two-thirds of the inmates were Falun Gong practitioners. The camp did not allow them to have contact with one another. To force them to give up the practice, they would not allow them to use the toilets, according to Wang.

Wang said, “[The guards] would have the Falun Gong practitioners write a statement guaranteeing they would stop doing and spreading the practice and stop saying ‘Falun Dafa is good.’ If a practitioner refused to do so, he/she was punished. The guards would send four people to monitor that practitioner around the clock; two during the day and two during the night. The practitioner was not allowed to use a toilet if he/she did not fill out an application form. (I have seen practitioners) excrete in their pants.”

    Falun Gong Taken at Night

Wang also mentioned something she did not comprehend, “Practitioners in the camp came and left frequently. In July 2008, I had seen three practitioners taken away secretly in the middle of the night.”

“At night, men dressed in white hats and clothes would open the door to our cell. They walked quietly to practitioners and whispered, ‘Get up. Don’t talk. Quickly pack up your belongings.’ They then left quietly. Several days later, a few more would come, and again take [practitioners] away at night. This happened frequently.”

Two independent Canadian investigators, David Matas and David Kilgour, interviewed organ recipients in 30 countries and published a report on January 31, 2007. In the report, they pointed out the CCP’s Liberation Army is involved in organ removal from prisoners. A large number of these organs were sold to foreigners. Most of the ‘prisoners’ were in fact Falun Gong practitioners in China.

According to the investigation, it is very easy for patients who need organ transplants to be matched with an organ in China. In a report from the Xiaoxiang Chenbao (www.xxcb.com.cn) on April 28, 2006, Mr. Huang’s family in Changsha City, Hunan Province, needed four kidney transplants. It only took the Hunan People’s Hospital a month to match all four of them with healthy kidneys. Also, Changchun’s City Evening News reported that Xie Bao, a 28-year-old suffered from last-stage dilated cardiomyopathy. A doctor at the Jilin University Affiliated Second Hospital in Changchun declared that Xie needed a heart transplant on February 27, 2006. The very next day after Xie was admitted to the Hospital, a matched heart was available.

Dr. Pang Yubin, a medical doctor in the United States believes organ harvesting is really happening. He said, “As far as organ transplant is concerned, in other countries, most patients need to wait for several years before they can find a matched donor, if they are lucky. In China, organs await patients.”

    Poison Dumplings Become Fringe Benefits

    (Getty Images)
新型“出口转内销”日毒饺子变中国人福利 [Poison Dumplings Become Fringe Benefits]

    Poison Dumplings Become Fringe Benefits

One year after poisonous dumplings from China made headlines in Japan, these same dumplings managed to make news again. [Please see Over 1,000 Japanese Poisoned by Dumplings Imported From China.]

On January 24, 2009, Japanese media reported that poisonous dumplings Japan returned to China last year became presents. The Tangshan Iron & Steel Co. and the ChengGang Co. gave their employees these same dumplings as worker benefits and many of them became ill thereafter.

In January 2008, many Japanese were poisoned after eating frozen dumplings made by the Tianyang Company in Shijiazhuang City. All the dumplings were returned to China. Recently the Daily Yomiuri disclosed these dumplings were given to employees of the Tangshan Iron & Steel Co. last May as a fringe benefit. These employees, mainly the night shift, received two to four bags of the bite-size returned dumplings. Some of them had symptoms of food poisoning such as severe diarrhea.

An employee from the Tangshan Co. said the company recalled the dumplings after some of them suffered from food poisoning. A male employee who confirmed to the Kyodo News, “I had sharp abdominal pains right after I ate the dumplings and was bedridden for two days.”

The Sankei Shimbun reported that because the Tianyang Company’s dumplings were banned for exportation, the company faced a financial crisis. The state-own Hebei Iron and Steel Group (HBIS) got involved and distributed over 100 thousand bags of the dumplings to employees of its subsidiary companies such as Tangshan Iron & Steel, ChengGang Company, HanGang Company, and the Zhangjiakou Company.

According to Sankei Shimbun, this new round of food poisoning happened because people believed the reports from the government, that “No deliberate poisoning has happened inside China.” Also the state media described the Tianyang Company as “having proper product safety management” and making the Tianyang Company look like the victim in the incident.

Besides Tangshan and ChengGang, the same incident also happened in HanGang. From April to June in 2008, HanGang gave each of its employees two to three bags of the problematic dumplings. It is said that 30 thousand people took those dumplings home.

Between December 2007 and January 2008, ten people in Hyogo County, Japan, suffered food poisoning after eating imported dumplings from China. Nine of them were hospitalized and one girl fell into a coma. Investigation showed the dumplings contained dichlorvos, a pesticide that was banned in Japan. The same year four people in China were also poisoned from the same dumplings. Beijing claimed to have arrested three employees from the Tianyang Company. They were suspected to purposely poison the dumplings. The case is still ongoing.

According to an eyewitness account on clearwisdom.net, two well-known artists from Beijing who were arrested before the Olympic Games because they practice Falun Gong are still in prison.

Wang Mingyue, a famous oil painter, and Jin Xiaohui, a photographer, were arrested in Beijing on July 8 and 9, 2008 under the Chinese regime’s policy of "safeguarding the Olympic Games." They are said to be now imprisoned in the Tuanhe Forced Labor Camp in Beijing.

Both were practitioners of Falun Gong (also called Falun Dafa). The practice was once among the most popular meditation disciplines in China, yet was banned by the communist regime in China due to the large number of people who were practicing it. The regime accompanied its ban with a massive propaganda campaign, arrests, and torture of those who practice.

Recent reports have shown evidence that the regime now uses practitioners of Falun Gong as living sources for organ transplants.

Wang Mingyue is an internationally acclaimed painter. His works have been displayed in many exhibitions, both in China and abroad. In 2000, he was invited to paint the portrait of Britain’s former Prime Minister, the late Sir Edward Heath.

Mr. Wang was in very good physical condition before his arrest, the report says, but now, according to a witness from the labor camp, he has lost a great deal of weight.

Wang Mingyue and Jin Xiaohui are said to be good friends.

The Chinese communist regime accelerated its persecution of numerous groups in the days leading up to the 2008 Olympic Games. Among the groups who were cracked down on were Falun Gong practitioners, Tibetans, House Christians, and human rights activists.

Human Rights organizations around the world are increasingly alarmed over the abuse, torture and deaths during detention of Falun Gong practitioners at the hands of the Chinese police and regime officials.

Falun Gong advocates non-violence, kindness, and being honest. The Chinese Communist Party is an atheist system which advocates social struggle. Similar to the reasons why the regime persecutes religious groups such as Christians, Tibetan Buddhists, and Muslim Uighurs, the regime sees Falun Gong’s emphasis on moral values as a threat to its own power.

Fifteen Chinese Lawyers Demand an Open Retrial of Falun Gong Practitioners

Fifteen Chinese Lawyers Demand an Open Retrial of Falun Gong Practitioners

Epoch Times Staff Jan 17, 2009

Fifteen lawyers have stepped forward to defend Falun Gong practitioners after the Chengdu People’s Intermediate Court sentenced 11 people, including Falun Gong practitioners and their family members, to prison terms of from 3 to 17 years in October 2008.

The 15 lawyers are asking the court to find the 11 defendants not guilty.

The lawyers insist that the sentencing in the first trial was not supported by facts or evidence. According to the lawyers, the court continued the proceedings in violation of several judicial procedures, and the court hastily ended the trial. As a result, the lawyers requested that the Chengdu People’s Intermediate Court hold an open second trial.

Lawyer Mou Jiyuan said, “The case deserves a second trial, mainly because of uncertain facts and insufficient evidence, which led to the sentencing and a misjudgment. We have therefore joined forces and reported the case to the local Procuratorate asking for an investigation.”

Lawyer Liu Wei said, “The court originally did not agree to hold another trial and only wanted our defense statements, trying to just go through the formality while maintaining the same verdicts. We felt that they did not want another trial, but we insisted on getting one. They totally did not understand the facts at all.”

    No Basis for Verdicts

Mao Qi’s lawyer, Jin Guanghong said, “There is no specific Chinese law that specifies Falun Gong is a cult. Therefore Falun Gong practitioners should not receive criminal sentences.”

Mao also said, “I have worked on Falun Gong practitioners’ cases before, so I’m familiar with this type of case. My defense for Falun Gong practitioners includes the following three points:

    1. Subjectively speaking, it is not a fact that Falun Gong practitioners use a cult to violate the law. They practice Falun Gong just to get fit and healthy, and not to violate the law. Falun Gong is not a cult. Whether it is a cult or not should not be defined by the judicial system casually.

    2. Falun Gong practitioners’ making and distributing information materials is an extension of the people’s right to freedom of speech and expression.

    3. People who practice Falun Gong are all very kindhearted and care about others greatly. They not only do no harm to society, but they actually contribute to maintaining society’s peace and stability. We therefore should not give them criminal sentences.”

    Accusations of Torture

According to the lawyers, Falun Gong practitioners stated in the court that when they were illegally detained in brainwashing centers, they were beaten, deprived of sleep, subjected to drug abuse, and subjected to torture that disfigured their faces.

Some Falun Gong practitioners’ bodies are still severely scarred. During the trial, one of them, Mr. Zhu Renbin whose face was pale, was holding the liver area in his abdomen and looked very weak.

PURCHASE, N. Y.—The Chinese New Year Splendor graced the Performing Arts Center at the State University of New York at Purchase on Jan. 23. The Performing Arts Center, a four-theater complex at SUNY-Purchase, is the major professional, nonprofit arts presenter in the southeastern New York-southwestern Connecticut region. The events the college hosts bring more than 200,000 audience members to the center each year.

Mr. Plotkin, a school administrator, brought students to learn about the true ancient culture, myths and legends of China. The company creates and performs works that center upon the true, divinely bestowed culture of humankind, and seeks to provide an experience of consummate beauty and goodness.

This was the first time Mr. Plotkin had brought any students to any Chinese show. His school has added a Chinese program to its curriculum. The trip to watch the performance supported the learning goals of that program.

"I found the show very enjoyable," Mr. Plotkin said. "The kids ... they really enjoyed it. It also gave the kids a unique perspective on Chinese dance and culture. It supported some of our academic things we do at the school, a main component of the curriculum is culture." The students saw what makes Chinese music and dance unique.

One of the Chinese legends the students saw included the dance The Monkey King Triumphs. This seemingly lighthearted story has deeper lessons. The Monkey King is a beloved character in Chinese history. He springs to life in this adaptation of a scene from the 16th century novel Journey to the West. The storyline reflects the melding of the magical, moral, and mundane so common in the traditional Chinese novel.

    平生只作对过的这一件大事
      (网络截图)

    平生只作对过一件大事,就是把孩子送到了国外去读大学.现在孩子功成名就,就职于国际知名企业学有所用开心愉快,也了却了我心头的一件大事,省去了好多不必要的烦恼,若是在国内学校,想毕业容易,找工作是很难的.

    目前在国内找工作难似乎是见怪不怪了,找个满意的工作更是难上加难,你一没钱二没权,那是难于考大学的,国内的高等教育落后腐败且不去说,送孩子上大学,读完大学读研究生,读完博士生能不能找到合适的工作可是个大问题;

    本人也在普通的大学工作,深知目前扩招后大学的教育水准,很多老师一本教案使了十几年,今年是它明年还是它,教材落后跟不上时代,要是教材更新换代快,老师还不是现买现卖,全靠学生自己摸索着学了,而且中国大学学的课程太繁杂,本科的课程如全学的好,那是很难的.还有很多老师自己为评职称照猫画虎胡编乱造的教材,毕竟在同一种教育体制下,中国各类大学的情况大同小异,无非是学生来源的质量标准高低不同罢了.

    对于一个孩子,他在学习生活中所接收到的信息有哪些,这些信息就构成了他对这个世界、社会、的认识直接影响他形成世界观。目前的大学能学到什么呢,除了学会了说教造假尔虞我诈还能学到什么,这个问题我早就看透了,所以对孩子在国内读大学完全没信心,真不知道会成什么样子.

    所以,东借西凑家族内部集资把孩子送到了国外大学去读书.由于孩子平时学习好,大家也都愿意投资,孩子读本科时没奖学金,除了读书还在学校图书馆打点工;只用了近3年的时间以优异的成绩完成了本科学业,本科毕业后申请读硕士学位是全奖,还担任助教工作,没要家里一分钱自己还攒了一笔钱.

    孩子去年硕士学位毕业, 论文得了一笔奖金也邀请了主要投资人舅舅参加了毕业典礼,舅舅也感到很荣幸,觉得这个投资是投对了.孩子毕业后直接应聘进入了一家很著名的跨国公司.学有所用,现在工作如鱼得水,年薪经济危机后约合人民币40万,再工作一年就捞回了全部教育投资.与在国内读书的同学相比那是天壤之别.

    相比之下老婆的亲姪女,本科毕业后考上了公费研究生,去年也毕业,学的是医学化验,要想留在医科大学据说要花上15万以上的明白费也不一定如愿,外科的更高要 25-30万,还要有路子能递上钱,不可靠的人也很难递上钱的,大舅子死的早,只是母女靠退休金相依为命,那里来的那许多钱去找工作,我想硕士学位毕业总不会找不到工作吧,慢慢找没必要花钱去找工作,我的意见被大家否决,说现在找工作那有不花钱的,还巧老婆的同事的同学是某三甲医院的副院长,经过一番周折花了10万块,折腾了几个来回,算是成了,还让你领情不少.大嫂为凑这笔钱为孩子找个体面的工作甚至卖掉了住房,自己到养老院去住了.

    更可气的是.小舅子的女儿在北京读博士来电话说不给导师钱想毕业很难,毕了业找到工作,博士启动资金也要都花掉.算起来孩子们读书带找工作都没少花钱.

    现在看来当初送孩子出国留学是英明伟大的决定,孩子表示今后讨老婆也要按国外的规矩,不要我们花钱,这减轻了我巨大的压力,要是在国内结婚购房那是要很大笔开销的.

    慈悲,令她面對邪惡毫無恐懼

    人權法律基金會亞洲執行長朱婉琪向陸委會遞交陳情書,呼籲台灣政府正視香港政府無理遣返台灣民眾。(大紀元)
    慈悲,令她面對邪惡毫無恐懼
    朱婉琪專訪:令機場港警落淚的九小時

    【大紀元6月29日訊】(大紀元記者張一靜專訪)距離香港七一周年兩天前夕的一個深夜,長榮航空一架來自香港的飛機降落在台灣桃園國際機場,上百名旅客拖著行李走出入境閘門,人權律師朱婉琪也在其中。不過,她的臉上沒有出國旅行的輕鬆,反而滿臉痛心,因為在兩個小時之前,她才被屈從中共壓力的港警五花大綁、架上飛機,強行暴力遣返台灣。

    朱婉琪,是一個典型的台灣社會菁英。她是美國紐約州律師,高中北一女畢業,擁有美國賓夕法尼亞大學法律碩士、台灣東吳大學法律碩士。在當律師之前,曾經是《天下雜誌》的記者,同時當過將近一年的外交官。美國紐約遭受恐怖攻擊的九一一事件,她也是少數的生還者之一。

    小時候就是「俠女」性格

    從小就是大家眼中的「俠女」,喜歡打抱不平,她曾經當街把插隊搭計程車的人從車裏拉出來,或是勸阻嚴厲責罵孩子的母親,甚至在公車上請年輕人讓座給老年人。

    朱婉琪八年前開始修煉法輪功,當年正是江澤民下令鎮壓法輪功的一九九九年,修煉一個月之後,她便寫信給當時的美國總統克林頓,要求關切法輪功問題。

    隨著中共虐殺中國法輪功學員的迫害越演越烈,朱婉琪約在三年前辭去每月六千美金的高薪工作,專心當一名人權律師,開始在國際社會奔走,向國際法庭、聯合國等聲援中國學員,同時發起控告江澤民,因而被中共視為「頭號不受歡迎人物」之一。

    這一次,朱婉琪四天之內之所以兩度闖關香港,除了觀察一國兩制的成效之外,為的就是與香港律師討論司法覆核案,研究港府侵犯台灣法輪功學員入境基本人權的案情。更重要的是,要對前來香港參加七一活動的中共領導人胡錦濤說:「停止迫害法輪功,法辦元兇江澤民!」

    這是朱婉琪這一生第四次被港府暴力遣返,前後歷時九小時,距離她第三次被暴力遣返,也僅僅相距四天。回憶起這第四次的暴力遣返,儘管她是一位女性,但卻毫無驚慌之意,反而流露無限的悲憫,只為香港人民感到惋惜。

    第四次遣返事件發生在六月二十八日,當天上午十點,朱婉琪還到台灣立法院舉行記者會,強烈譴責她在六月二十四日的香港行遭到第三次暴力遣返,同時當場表明,記者會結束之後,她將要搭當天中午十二點四十分的長榮班機,再次入境香港。

    雖是女性,但面對邪惡無恐懼

    「明知山有虎,偏向虎山行」,在班機飛越台灣海峽的航程中,朱婉琪想到「我是來救人的,再給香港政府扳回顏面的機會」,心頭那一把正義及良知的火炬便熊熊燃燒,將那些恐懼化為灰燼。

    兩點多鐘一下飛機,朱婉琪揹著簡單的行囊,步入香港機場準備通關。通關閘道的香港入境處官員,將朱婉琪的資料在電腦中比對,發現她在「黑名單」之內,頓時收起原本微笑迎接觀光客的笑臉,神情漠然的請機場航警,將她帶到機場辦公室。

    入境處的官員早已熟悉朱婉琪「這號人物」,看到朱婉琪,頗有「妳怎麼又來了」的心緒,四目相對,雙方的心情都非常複雜。此時此景,朱婉琪覺得非常諷刺,原本用於遣返毒販、恐怖份子的手段,卻用在和平、理性的人權律師。

    進入機場辦公室之後,朱婉琪被十多名男女警察團團圍住,等待更高階的官員做出是否遣返的決定。在等待的過程中,朱婉琪告訴這十幾名基層警察,對於上級長官不公不義侵犯人權的命令,可以拒絕執行。

    但多數官員都面露無奈、凝重的表情,有幾位女警對她說:「朱律師,我們是很尊敬妳的,我們都知道妳的事情,但我們在執行命令。」

    朱婉琪繼續正色道:「我是全球反對香港二十三條立法的台灣代表,我不只為中國人權講話,也替香港人權講話,現在你們卻要把一個支持你們的人權律師遣返,當午夜夢迴時,你們不會感到良心不安嗎?」

    話說到這裡,一位女警的眼眶當場紅了起來,轉身離開,一位男警則低下了頭開始沉默,現場的氣氛無奈中泛著沉重。

    這種氣氛朱婉琪感受到了,又繼續對他們說:「即便你們沒有最後的決定權,但我希望你們都能夠一起發出善念,『好人不要被遣返』,這對你們的未來都是有好處的。」此話一出,這些航警們臉上原本沉重凝結的表情,頓時柔和了起來。

    心懷慈悲令航警落淚

    儘管朱婉琪遭到違反國際公約的對待,但對於眼前的這一群香港基層警察卻沒有一絲懼怕或怨氣,反而是流露出無限的悲憫。這也讓一位負責檢查朱婉琪行李的女警,為自己執行違心的公務感到汗顏,翻查行李時眼眶泛紅、雙手顫抖。

    朱婉琪回想起來,非常為這些航警感到心疼:「他們其實是有良知的,但卻因為他們的高階長官一個錯誤的命令,而受到牽累,做出他們不願意違背良心的事情。」

    後來一位女性官員林佩玲主任出現了,表明香港入境事務處機場管制科指揮官陳孟麟決定遣返朱婉琪,儘管朱婉琪繼續勸說,但仍然無效。

    突然之間,員警們摘下朱婉琪的眼鏡,十幾名男女員警撲向她,用鎮暴毯像裹粽子般的將她搬上抬車,然後推出機場辦公室。

    十幾名警察就這樣一路推著朱婉琪,狂奔機門口。在這過程中,朱婉琪儘管呼吸急促、四肢難受,但並沒有反抗,只是不斷的對他們說:「你們這樣做,對你們自己不好,會遭到惡報的。」試圖不斷喚醒他們的良知。

    這條入境處辦公室到達機門口之間的機場走道,朱婉琪第三次被遣返時也被抬著走過,當時朱婉琪用英語對其他旅客大喊:「我是人權律師,但卻被暴力遣返,只因為我反對共產黨!」

    當時身邊的航警竟然沒有人掩住她的嘴巴,就這樣任憑朱婉琪大喊十餘分鐘直到機門口,彷彿認同朱婉琪說出了他們的心聲。有些外國遊客聽見了,看到這一幕非常吃驚。

    等到朱婉琪被推到機門口時,在被鬆綁之後,朱婉琪對航警們說:「你們遣返的是一個好人」,一個女警對她點點頭。看到航警們氣喘噓噓、揮汗如雨,朱婉琪又說:「我今天為香港而來是要做最正的事情,神都在保護著,所以現在感覺很自在,你們做的卻是違心的事情,身體才會感到有壓力,你們應該都來煉法輪功。」

    朱婉琪當場又取出台灣知名點心「麻糬」請這些航警們吃,一個遭到暴力對待的人權律師,心裡全無恨意只是友善,讓航警們感到非常不好意思。

    場景回到第四次的暴力遣返,到達機門口之後,朱婉琪稍微受到鬆綁,後來一位長榮航空公司駐港的值班主管出現,表示長榮必須將她載回台灣,但朱婉琪沒有同意:「一個人權律師,若是這樣輕易對不公不義妥協,又怎麼去保護其他人的權益呢?」

    這位值班主管受到感動,雖然現實上為難,並不願勉強朱婉琪登機,就讓原本要載送朱婉琪的班機先飛了。不過,港府入境處最後還是要求長榮航空,若不配合遣返朱婉琪就要對其罰款,並且再度強押朱婉琪上了飛機。即便被押上飛機,朱婉琪還是要求見機長,表達不願登機的自由意志,但沒有被接受。

    在被押上飛機之前的空檔時間裡,朱婉琪仍然不斷的向身邊的航警苦勸:「台灣法輪功學員來香港沒有惡意,只是想向中共領導人要求停止迫害法輪功,這群人當中甚至還有連普通話都說不好的老太太,這樣的人會對香港產生什麼危害呢?希望你們不要做出傷害港台兩地情誼的事情。」

    航警們聽得啞口無言、沒有一人反駁,只是沉默不語。有位女警轉身表現的很難過,有的轉身離的遠一些,不想面對眼前天人交戰的煎熬。

    朱婉琪認為,光看香港入境處官員的表現全過程,就知道他們被強迫執行違心的公務,根本沒有行政、司法的獨立空間,這正好戳破中共「一國兩制」、「港人自治」的謊言。

    雪地裡小女孩故事激勵人心

    回想在走遍全世界的足跡當中,最令朱婉琪最難忘的是在俄羅斯雪地的一個小女孩的故事。當時正值俄羅斯最寒冷的冬天,一個約莫六歲大的俄羅斯小女孩裸著腳踝穿雙破鞋,在市集裡發揭露法輪功迫害的傳單,因為太冷,小女孩邊跳著,邊發傳單。

    朱婉琪見狀之後相當不解,小女孩為什麼不穿襪呢?小女孩的媽媽怎麼能夠放任自己的女兒這樣呢?

    後來旁人告訴她,小女孩與她的母親都是法輪功學員,有一天,媽媽問女兒:「我們的錢很少,妳要我用來幫妳買襪子,還是用來印製法輪功真相傳單,妳選擇哪一個?」後來小女孩選擇後者。

    朱婉琪聽了之後,當場在冬天的雪地裡熱淚盈眶,久久不能自己。多年過去了,這個雪地裡的場景常常浮現在朱婉琪的腦海中,細細的回味著,同時激勵自己,要在人權界中繼續奮力奔走,直到世界上再也沒有角落裡的迫害。
